Anchor Art Space is very pleased to welcome Rebecca Meloy (AR '77-'78) exhibiting Cascadia Tree Suite, a moving series of finely made block prints.
Artist Statement:
"My art revolves around land and trees, maybe because as a child that is where I found centering protection. Having a strong bond with nature, I realized as an adult that I became overwrought when destruction is brought to the environment. For many years I was active attending hearings about wetland filling, water pollution, jet noise and I co-founded a local collaborative environmental newspaper. Only after years of painting abstract Diary Pages, the land that I love emerged through a gouache painting of an orchard, titled Healing Life.
Today, my decisions about the imagery I select are spontaneous. Frequently it is the quality of light and air or wind movement that pulls me into the plein-air art making process."
The Cascadia Tree Suite is a collection of twelve linoleum prints hand printed by the artist. It is a limited edition collection printed on Rives paper with water-based printer's ink. The images are inspired by Northwest trees near wetlands, mountains, trees, creeks, beaches, shrubbery, and buildings from Ferndale, WA, to Eugene, OR.
